Meera's garden

Meera had a small garden behind her house. She grew tomatoes, beans and marigolds. Every morning before school, she watered the plants and pulled out the weeds. One summer, there was very little rain. The well near her house almost dried up. Meera did not want her plants to die. She started saving the water used for washing vegetables and rice and poured it on her plants. Her garden stayed green all summer. Her neighbours were surprised and began to save water in the same way. Soon, the whole street had green gardens.
