NEET UG Biology Revision Blueprint: NCERT High-Yield Chapters

By GetMyMockTest Academic Team · 28 September 2026

In NEET UG, Biology carries 360 out of 720 total marks—constituting a full 50% of your aggregate. Securing 340+ in Biology is indispensable for getting into top government medical colleges (AIIMS, JIPMER, KGMU, MAMC). The path to this benchmark lies in absolute command of Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT Biology textbooks.

1. High-Yield Chapters in NCERT Biology

Class 12 Units (Weightage: ~50-52%)

  • Genetics and Evolution (Principle of Inheritance, Molecular Basis of Inheritance): The single most important unit in NEET. Understand Mendelian crosses, DNA replication, transcription, translation, operon models, and pedigree analysis. Expect 12–15 questions from this unit alone.
  • Biotechnology (Principles, Processes & Applications): Recombinant DNA technology, restriction enzymes, cloning vectors, PCR, and transgenic organisms. Highly conceptual and direct from NCERT.
  • Human Reproduction & Reproductive Health: Menstrual cycle regulation, spermatogenesis/oogenesis, embryonic development, and ART technologies (IVF, ICSI).
  • Ecology & Environment: Organisms and populations, Ecosystem energy pyramids, Biodiversity conservation, and environmental conventions.

Class 11 Units (Weightage: ~48-50%)

  • Human Physiology: Neural control, Chemical coordination, Digestion, Breathing, Circulation, and Excretion. Focus on hormonal feedbacks and physiological graphs.
  • Plant Physiology: Photosynthesis (C3/C4 pathways, Light reaction schemes), Respiration (Glycolysis, Krebs cycle, ETS), and Plant growth regulators (Auxins, Gibberellins, Cytokinins).
  • Cell Structure and Division: Cell cycle stages (Mitosis vs Meiosis checkpoints), endomembrane system, and chromosome morphology.
  • Diversity in the Living World: Memorize plant kingdom and animal kingdom classification tables, scientific names, and unique characteristics (coelom, symmetry, vascular system).

2. Mastering Tricky Question Formats

Modern NEET exams feature challenging question styles beyond direct recall:

  • Assertion-Reason Questions: Validate whether both statements are true independently before checking if Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.
  • Statement 1 & Statement 2 Questions: Carefully observe qualifiers such as "always", "never", "most", or "all".
  • Match the Following: Use process of elimination to identify options quickly without checking all four pairs.
